Being Brave
I recently was on a business trip to Universal Studios in Florida and was blessed in many ways by my sister being able to travel with me.
Part of my job was to experience the Theme Parks so that I would better understand all that they had to offer and could then guide my clients to make the choices that would best fit their travel needs.
I had decided that I would ride every ride my sister wanted to because she has never been to a theme park before and I didn’t want to hold her back from all the possible experiences just because I was fearful of roller coasters.
Our first ride was one of the largest in the park and it launched us into the fastest down hill spiral I have ever experienced. From there it looped and looped and finally came to an abrupt stop. By the end of the ride my mind was spinning as much as the ride and I mustered the courage to go to the next ride because she seemed to enjoy the thrill.
By the end of the day we had conquered almost every ride with the exception of the fastest and newest roller coaster. This ride could reach speeds up to 70 mph and would spiral, loop and twirl the entire time. So we got in line and proceeded to our next adventure, we wanted to finish well.
Needless to say, I screamed A LOT!
Later that evening as we sat by the pool relaxing and talking, my sister commented that she didn’t know I like roller coasters so much. My reply was, “I don’t. I rode them for you.” She laughed and said she didn’t like them either and she rode them for me because she thought experiencing the park for business meant personally on the rides.” Together we made each other brave.
Had I traveled by myself I would have just observed the other theme park guests as they experienced the rides, but traveling with a friend gave me the courage to try new things and embrace the adventure.
God made us for relationship and each person in our lives is there for a purpose. They remind us that we are not alone and that together we can be brave and step out into life and all it has to offer.
