Live Boldly

Be Fruitful

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” – Genesis 1:28

The command that God gave to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, “be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth,” still stands for us today. But that command has a much deeper meaning that just having children. There can be many reasons why someone may not have children and that does not make them fruitless. As Daughters of The King we have the opportunity to live lives that are pleasing to God and bring Him glory (bear fruit) whether we have children or not.

We can be spiritually fruitful and multiply the citizens of the Kingdom of God when we obey Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19) The bible tells us that we are made in the image of God; as believers we are His image bearers and our assignment from God is to fill the earth with evidence of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Simply put, we are created to reflect the nature of God and that nature is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control – the fruits of the Spirit.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, so the assignment He gave thousands of years ago in the Garden of Eden is the same He has for us today, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth.” How can we share the goodness and faithfulness of God with someone today? We do it by telling them what Jesus has done in our lives. We do it by living a spirit filled life that reflects the Godly character within us. We do it by inviting them to know the love, mercy and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We do it by sharing God’s Word with them and assuring them that He is with them to the very end. That’s what it means to go and make disciples – to be fruitful and multiply.

Dear Lord, thank you for the privilege of bearing Your image. I pray that I will reflect You in a way that will draw others to You. Help my life to be fruitful for You and display the wonders You have done in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
