Anticipation of time with God
Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.
By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life. Psalm 42:7-8
I have the privilege of taking a few days off this week and spending time with God all by myself. When I first scheduled this God retreat I was exhausted, worn out, and emotionally out of energy. In the last few days, however, I have felt much better and even thought of canceling the trip.
But when I prayed about it and read through my memory verses I realized that it was the enemy that wanted me to cancel because God has big plans for our time together. I know this because as I reviewed memory verses, today’s passage jumped out at me and I knew it would be the theme of our time together.
The roar of life has been sweeping over me and God wants to get me in a place where all I hear is His voice. He has words to speak into my life and I need to be fully present with no distractions so that I will be able to clearly hear what He has to say, ready to learn what He wants to teach me, and renewed with passion to obey.
It’s in that place of communion with God that the rest of the verse will take place, “Yet in the light of day, the Eternal shows me His love. When night settles in and all is dark, He keeps me company— His soothing song, a prayerful melody to the True God of my life.”
I get so excited just thinking about it! Spending the day with God as He showers me with His love, His Word, and His presence. Then sleeping peacefully at night knowing that He is watching over me and has given me a new song of praise to sing about my God.
I pray that you will take the opportunity to have a God day. Take a day off from work and be determined to spend it entirely with God. It can be at home, in a park, or any place where you can be free from the roar of this world. Then, with great anticipation, seek God and what He will do in your time together. I promise it will always be worth it.
