An Evening News Reminder
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Watching the evening news is one of my least favorite things to do. For years I would actually avoid it just because it was always depressing and I didn’t need that in my life. But I’ve started looking at it with a different perspective since attending the Christian Life & Witness seminars. The world events we see in the news are signs that Christ’s return is getting closer and closer.
It’s a double edged sword. It’s hearbreaking to see the tragedies all around us and yet knowing Christ will return is extremely exciting. Seeing all the lost and hurting people in the world tugs on our heart strings and yet we’ve been given the message of hope that will bring them peace and joy, if we would share it with them.
The news has become a reminder of the Great Commission that Christ gave all believers, “Go! And make disciples.” Everyday we have opportunities to share Christ through the way we live, the words we speak and the Divine Encounters that are waiting for us to engage with others. It’s not for us to decide who we share the message with, it’s God who leads us to those whose hearts He is preparing to receive Him.
In the Life Application Study Bible believers are told that “we should not turn our backs on people who are unclean or repulsive to us or who violate our moral standards and religious beliefs. Instead, we must realize that every human individual is a unique creation of God, needing to be touched by His love.”
I cannot tell you how grateful I am that God is the only judge. He decides because He knows all the details and He sees each person’s heart and true motives. Our job is simply to share the message, be a witness and leave the rest up to God.
It’s actually quite humbling to understand that the God of the Universe, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, has asked each of us to work along side of Him in sharing the message of salvation. What a privilege!
As we pray, “Come quickly Lord,” let us also remember to pray that we will be obedient to speak up, share Him and share in His desire that none should perish.
