Ambassador of Peace
Peaceful responses are a powerful witness of God’s presence and leading in our lives. When we become believers we also become ambassadors, which are authorized messengers or representatives of Christ.
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
We are messengers of peace who get the privilege of sharing Jesus with the world. In knowing Jesus, we know that peace is not the absence of trouble, but rather it is confidence in the midst of it.
God’s peace helps us turn the other cheek. We would find it impossible to live in peace on our own but when we choose to obey God, we can be confident that He will help us do what it takes to live peacefully with others.
Peace is a remarkable gift. Abigail, the peacemaker, brought peace to David by helping him see past his desire to avenge and to focus on God’s purpose instead. God had sent her as His representative to bring about a peaceful solution.
God offers peace in specific ways:
- He offers peace with Him through a relationship with Jesus Christ
- He offers inner peace to each of us
- He enables us to live peacefully with others
God’s peace brings order and direction to our lives and surpasses understanding. That means that when we are going through a very trying ordeal, we can experience calmness, confidence and assurance that He is right there with us, fully in control.
As my responsibilities began to pile up this week I felt so overwhelmed that I could just cry. Trying to figure out how I was going to accomplish all that would need to be done over the next several months was taking its toll. I often thought of Abigail and all the responsibilities she had and what she must have felt.
Just when I thought I had my head wrapped around it, another large obligation was added and it became too much. That day as I was writing I felt it was time to change the verses on the main page of the blog. The verses that the Lord gave me were, “So do no fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10) And “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
God gave me His peace that day in such a mighty way. His words, “I will,” were a promise to me that He will see me through and will provide all I need to accomplish every task. The responsibilities were not removed, but the confidence that He would help me through and give me the ability to do what needed to be done was given. As if that wasn’t enough, He also gave me the desire to do it with a Christ like attitude.
He is providing me with several opportunities to be His ambassador and to do it in a way that those watching will see Him. They will see that when life gets overwhelming we have a God that offers peace. They will see that even in frustrating circumstances we can have a positive attitude and confidence that it will all work out for good.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27) He also said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
That is who we represent as ambassadors, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He brings peace to us and we have the honor and privilege to help bring peace to others.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for Your promises of strength and presence that You give to me. Your peace surpasses my understand and I’m so grateful that You have filled me with it and the confidence to continue. Help me to be an ambassador that points others to you. That they will see Your peace in me and desire to know You more so that they too can experience peace with God. I can do all things through You Lord. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, amen.
