A Year In Review
It’s the time of year when we begin to think of New Year’s resolutions and what goals we would like to accomplish by this time next year. Goal setting has been on my mind for the last several weeks and I keep getting the feeling that God wants me to take some time and think through the process and be serious about really making some changes with that will require strong commitments.
I purchased a Christian planner because the format of the book was intriguing to me. Each day had detailed goals that would lead to achieving the larger monthly goals and finally to the year end goals.
In addition to the planner I googled how to make a vision board. I was challenged to answer a couple of questions that would help create the vision of what I wanted to accomplish. Some of those questions were:
- What did you accomplish this year? This can be anything that was significant for you in any area of your life. The idea is to give yourself credit and recognize all the positive experiences you had and the goals you already accomplished. Surviving something is also an accomplishment.
- What are you most proud of?
- What ideas or dreams did you turn into reality this year?
- What meaningful relationships or connections did you form this year?
- What new skills or knowledge did you learn or improve on this year?
- What things or people brought you happiness and joy this year?
Those questions gave me plenty of things to think about and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time on each question. When I reviewed my answers I was reminded of God’s faithfulness throughout the year. It also gave me an excitement about what lies ahead in the New Year.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for time to remember so many details from this last year. The new people that You brought into my life through finding a new church home. The moments spent visiting will old friends. Adventures and trials which all drew me closer to You. Guide me in setting goals that will align with Your plan and purposes for me in the new year. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Where does my help come from?
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
