A Tool with Purpose
Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. – 1 Corinthians 7:17
My son is a diesel mechanic and has toolboxes filled with different types of tools. Some are for basic services and others are for specialized techniques that are required for unique jobs. But each tool is important and needed.
It may seem like a strange comparison, but we are tools in Christ’s toolbox. We often wonder about our purpose or even think that we have limited giftings, but if we dig a little deeper we will discover that there are many ways that we can be useful ‘tools’ for Christ.
A good question to ask yourself is, “what part of Jesus, His work or His character does this person need to see right now? Do they need someone to listen to them? Do they need a word of encouragement? Do they need a voice of wisdom and discernment? Do they need to be loved? Do they need to be fed? They all need prayer and those are just a few of the ways that we can be useful and used for God.
More unique situations may require time, money and other resources which we may think of as our own, but in truth, all we have belongs to God and are given to us to steward and use for His purposes.
A mechanic’s tools are his livelihood, his way of life. He needs them and uses them every day. What a great way to think of our giftings from God – a way of life to be used everyday for His glory.
