A Timely Word
After David accepted the gifts and words of Abigail he blessed her and sent her home in peace. But upon arrival at her home, peace was not what she found.
While she was away correcting the wrongs done by her husband and saving her household, her husband was holding a banquet like that of a king. He was in high spirits and very drunk.
She could have gotten angry and yelled at him in front of his friends and servants. She could have made a point right then to tell him what a terrible position he had put them all in. She could have railed against him for being so selfish and not giving food to David and his men while he sat at home eating and drinking excessively. She could have made it clear that he would have been dead the following day if it had not been for her. But she didn’t. Wisely she told him nothing until daybreak.
The following morning when Nabal was sober, she told him everything that had taken place.
When discussing difficult matters with people, especially family members, timing is very important. Relying on God for wisdom to know the best time for confrontation and for bringing up touchy subjects, will always lead to a better outcome.
Be Intentional about timing your words.
