A Strange Request

Try to imagine how Esther’s heart must have been racing as she entered the throne room and was welcomed by the king. After she received his approval he asked her what it was that she wanted to request.

Her response was, “If it pleases the king, let the king, together with Haman, come today to a banquet I have prepared for him.” Then the king and Haman went to the banquet she had prepared.

What a strange request. She along with the other Jews in Susa, had been fasting for her meeting with the king and now at that meeting her request was an invitation to a banquet for the king and her enemy Haman.

The bible isn’t clear on why she made a request for a banquet, but regardless the outcome showed God’s leading.

Sometimes we may not understand why God asks us to do certain things or say certain things, but just because they don’t make sense to us doesn’t mean that God is not working behind the scenes. Our obedience to say and do what He leads us to, when he leads us, is all that He requires. The outcome is in His very capable hands.

Father, there are times that I don’t understand why you want me to say or do something and I pray that in those moments You would help me obey without question. Help me to remember that You know the whole story and my obedience is all that You require. In Jesus’ name, amen.
