A Sister’s Watchful Care
“His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him. Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you? And the little girl went and got the baby’s mother.” (Exodus 2: 4, 7-8)
Miriam was Moses’s sister and her role as a watchful sister was part of God’s plan and purpose in saving his life. As young as she was, she showed great courage and initiative when she approached Pharaoh’s daughter and suggested a plan that would help reunite Moses and his mother.
No doubt there was only a few moments in which Miriam could step out in faith to get the attention of the princess and she didn’t let the fear of what might happen cause her to miss the opportunity. God used her watchfulness, her courage and her action as part of His plan to rescue His people from Egypt by saving Moses.
God has blessed us all with sisters, whether they are biological, adopted or sisters in Christ. You too, are a sister to others and your watchful care, friendship and encouragement are all part of God’s plan for those around you. Each relationship is full of purpose and possibility.
Miriam’s example of watching, seeing a need and taking action to meet that need is in the Bible to encourage us to do the same. Who do you know that could use a kind word? A little help? A friend?
I found some quotes about sisters that I would like to share with you.
“Sisters make the best friends in the world.” – Marilyn Monroe
“Having a sister is like having a best friend that you can’t get rid of. You know that whatever you do, they’ll still be there.”- Amy Li
“I may not be able to solve all your problems but I promise you won’t have to face them alone.”
“Sisters give hope when life is low, sisters are a place where you can go. Sisters are honest, sisters are true, sisters are precious, my sister is you.”
God has called us to be sisters to each other and to mindfully watch for opportunities to love, help and encourage one another. It may be fearful to approach a stranger and tell her she looks beautiful today or see someone struggling and lend a helping hand, but remember that God has given you those Divine Encounters with purpose. Your timely response could be an answer to their prayers.
Be Intentional about being a true sister to those around you.
