A Moment In Time
I attended a family reunion this weekend and one of the events was burying a 5 year time capsule. The assignment was to write a short letter about yourself and what you think would be happening in 5 years.
A current newspaper was added to the capsule as well as a Polaroid picture of each person. Everyone’s height was written down and the smaller kids included an outline of their hand print so they could compare when the capsule is reopened.
It was interesting watching everyone as they sat at the picnic tables writing their letters. Often them would stop writing and look up with thoughts going through their minds of what to write. My granddaughter informed me that she would be 11 years old when we retrieved the capsule and it made me think of what she would be like then.
As a family with 35 members attending, we hiked to the location where the capsule would be buried. In turn we each put a shovel full of dirt over the hole and the youngest ones jumped on it to pack the dirt.
My father shared a few words on time and making the most of of it. Only God knows what the next five years will bring and as I looked around at my family I wondered how many would be there when the capsule was unearthed and opened. How many new members would join our family in the years to come?
The theme of the reunion was “A Moment In Time,” and I’m grateful that I was able to spend the weekend with my family laughing, playing, eating and sitting around a campfire sharing stories. There were moment that we will never have again and there were moments that will be remembered around next years campfire.
In Psalm 139:13-16 it reads, “
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Every moment that we are on this earth is by God’s design. Each one a gift. He knows exactly how many we have and all we need to do is make the most of each one. Thank you Lord for The Moments In Time.”
My Prayer
Father, thank you for my family, each and every member. I’m was so blessed to have been able to spend some quality time with them. Thank you for the reminder to make the most of the moments that we are given. Thank you for Your protection and for the new family members. I pray for those who were unable to attend that they will know they are loved and missed. You are a good God! In Jesus’ name, amen.
