Live Boldly

A Code of Grace

Last night at a bible study, I was blessed with an incredible nugget of truth and awe in God’s word. The instructor shared the genealogy of Adam to Noah and then gave the meaning of each name. Chuck Missler wrote about macra codes in the bible and here is what it looks like all together:

  • Adam……………..man
  • Seth………………….appointed
  • Enosh………………mortal
  • Kenan……………..sorrow
  • Mahalalel……….the blessed God
  • Jared……………….shall come down
  • Enoch……………..teaching
  • Methuselah………his death shall bring
  • Lamech…………..the despairing
  • Noah……………….rest or comfort

Isn’t that the message of Easter? Man appointed mortal sorrow. The blessed God shall come down teaching; his death shall bring the despairing rest or comfort. That is fascinating to me!

As I was thinking about Lent yesterday and my life before Christ, it was a humbling reminder of how much I’ve been forgiven for. The cost of my sin was great and Jesus paid that price for me. His sacrifice has brought rest and comfort. It’s also brought a new life where there is hope, joy and relationship.

My blessed God is teaching me new things all the time. He offers unlimited moments to get to know Him and His character better. I have chosen to give up complaining for Lent. Of course I was given many opportunities yesterday to put that into practice. I opened my mouth to voice a complaint to my co-worker and as soon as the first word was out of my mouth, I was reminded about my choice. So instead, I told her this would be a quiet 40 days. God is so good!

I’m in awe of the lengths that He will go to have a relationship with us. So many nuggets of truth along the way that remove any doubt that He is God. It’s like the most incredible treasure hunt ever.

I would walk the beach early in the mornings while on vacation. My eyes were always on the lookout for seashells. It was exciting to see all the different shapes and sizes and to be in joyful anticipation of what I would find.

I believe it’s the same way with Jesus. Walking with Him is always an adventure and there are treasures along the way. I can be excited as I wait in anticipation of what He has in store for me. He has a plan and His plan is good.

My prayer

Father, thank you for nuggets and treasures in Your word. Thank you for time with other believers to explore Your word and get to know You better. Thank you for Your sacrifice for me and the new life I have in You. Help me to never lose my sense of wonder and amazement in our relationship. I love You Lord! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
