A Blessed Day
So often when I pray I will ask for a blessed day. It just rolls off my tongue and has become a part of my morning prayer. I do want a blessed day, but I find that sometimes I’m just saying the words because they are comforting and it feels like I’m covering my bases.
As I thought about this for a moment a question came to mind, “What would a blessed day look like?” It made me stop and think about what I was really asking for. What makes a blessed day? Do things like the weather, possessions or everything going my way make it blessed? Sometimes, yes. In my mind they do, but those things don’t last and sometimes they are not as wonderful as I expected them to be or thought they would be.
I asked myself when was the last truly blessed day I remembered. A day that I felt joy, fulfilled and satisfied? What was that day like? I would say it was the day that I started the blog. I was excited, full of purpose and passion. There were moments that I knew without a doubt that God was leading me. There were moments when I imagined Him sitting right beside me smiling and encouraging me – loving me.
In this adventure and in life, I have a lot to learn and at times it gets very frustrating. But I keep hearing, “I’m with you. I’ll help you. Spend time with Me.” When I spend time with Him, He gives me moments of understanding and success, even moments of frustration are easier to deal with because the feeling of Godly obedience is so much better. He’s saying to me, “Join me in this adventure. Don’t miss what I have in store for you by choosing the easy way out. Stick with Me.”
It’s all about spending time with Jesus and walking with Him. It’s “experiencing the peace that transcends all understanding.” It’s my “heart burning within when He’s near.” Now that’s a Blessed Day! I can choose to have a blessed day, everyday.
Going deeper I realized that praying for a blessed day was asking God for something that was completely within my power to provide, so why was I asking God for this?
He has given me the freedom of choice. I can choose to have a blessed day and see God’s hand in every situation or I can choose to see through my own eyes and desires. When I choose my own will over His I will always miss out on His best and a blessed day with God is always an adventure.
So if I’m not having a blessed day then I’ve chosen to focus on other things. Making the problems bigger than my God. Think about it, Paul and Silas had a horrible day filled with beatings and imprisonment, yet they felt blessed to be persecuted for Christ. They sang in chains to Him and experienced even more miracles.
I’ve never been in the type of situations that Paul and Silas were and their example is inspiring to me. I want to experience all that God has for me and that begins with choosing to have a blessed day no matter the circumstances. He will give me joy, fulfillment and I will end my day completely satisfied when I choose to spend it with Him.
My prayer
Father, thank you for blessed days! Days with You when no matter what, I know You’re near, leading me, correcting me, teaching me and always loving me. Help me to see what You have for me each day and to find You in the moments. Give me courage to face the tough moments and to find joy in them. Thank you for giving me adventures with You. Amen
